The Artist

Long before I created Originals for clients, I was creating artwork of my own family for our home.

Like most parents, I thought I would remember everything exactly as it was. The expressions, the personalities, the little routines that filled an ordinary Tuesday. Then, somehow, my girls grew up. Not all at once, but steadily, the way childhood always does.

I wanted more than photographs of them. I wanted to live with their faces on my walls. I wanted artwork that made me happy every time I walked into the room because the people in it were mine.

I only wish I had started sooner, when my girls were littler.

The pieces I created for our home are still among the things I treasure most. Not because of what they cost or because they match a particular room, but because of who is in them and how I feel when I look at them.

That is what led me to the work I do today.

Heidi Knight Originals are commissioned portraits of the people someone loves enough to make part of their home. They may portray an entire family, one child at a particular age, a bride, or simply someone whose face you would like to see every day.

My approach is personal from the first conversation because the artwork is personal. I want to know who matters to you and what you love about them. Everything else follows from there.

The finished Original should do more than fill a wall. It should make you stop occasionally when you walk past it. It should make you happy that you commissioned it, and it should make you happy that it is yours.

That is what my own artwork does for me.

A few things about me:

I am a wife, mother, "Hunny," and an ever-evolving artist. Our home has always mattered deeply to me, not because of how it is decorated, but because it is where the people I love live their lives.

That belief is at the heart of every Heidi Knight Original.

Most of the families I work with come back for a second piece, and then a third. Their homes become galleries of the people they love. I would be honored to create your first.
